Exhausted in the Night

“What if this is as good as it gets?”
Yeah, what if…

We think so many things
And many fall right through
All the pieces flee the whole
Obscuring what is true.

Helen asks a good question
And so does Spinoza
Because there are no new questions
And everything was before.

Do you wonder at the thought
Of dreams made flesh to wing the sky
Through the moonlit cloudless night
Passing all our troubles by?

What if she is right?
But Jack’s not really so bad
We could do worse but dreams are hard
And now we go to sleep.
